画像に不自然な点があるなどと指摘されている新たな万能細胞「ＳＴＡＰ細胞」の論文について、共著者の一人、若山・山梨大教授が他の著者らに論文を撤回するよう呼び掛けたことが１０日、理化学研究所への取材で分かった。

　　若山教授は「信じていた研究のデータに重大な問題が見つかり、ＳＴＡＰ細胞が本当に出来たのかどうか確信がなくなった。

論文はいったん取り下げた上で、外部の人に検証してもらうべきだ」と述べた上で、小保方さんを含む共同著者に論文の取り下げに同意するよう呼びかけたことを明らかにした。

理研は「現時点で、論文の根幹は揺るがないと考えているが、引き続き調査する」と述べた。
　論文は１月末、理研発生・再生科学総合研究センター（神戸市）の小保方・研究ユニットリーダーらが英科学誌ネイチャーに執筆。大きな話題となったが、画像に不自然な線が入っていることや、別の論文から無断で文章を引用している疑いがあることなどがインターネットなどで指摘され、理研とネイチャー誌が調査している。
