子供教育を専門に展開するヒューマンエヌディー株式会社と千葉工業大学未来ロボット技術研究センター（ｆｕＲｏ・フューロ）は、今年９月から小中学生を対象にした新プログラム「ロボティクス　プロフェッサー　コース」の開講を発表した。日本で初めて大学のロボット研究所が全面協力し、“未来のロボット博士”を目指した英才教育を実施する。
　ロボットやハイテクをテーマとした子供向けの科学教室はあったが、多くはサイエンスを楽しむのが目的だ。このため、本格的に科学に取り組みたい「ロボット博士」を養成して技術や知識を継承しようと、ヒューマンエヌディーとフューロが新しいプログラムの講座を開設することになった。
　３年間の新講座では、さまざまな方向に動くことができる車輪を使ったオリジナルの全方位移動台車ロボットを製作する。製作しただけでは前進と後進、旋回しかできないが、数学や物理が理解できると、より滑らかに生物のように自由自在に動かせるようになるなど「パワーアップ」できる。子供たちの学ぶ力と意欲で、より高性能なロボットになる仕組みだ。また、プロミングや人工知能の知識など、専門家レベルのロボット技術も学ぶ。
会見に出席したフューロの古田所長は「楽しみながらロボット製作をし、いつの間にか学校の数学と物理が身につき、結果的に好きになってもらえれば」と話す。
　ヒューマンエヌディーは２００９年、ヒューマンキッズサイエンス「ロボット教室」を開講。世界的なロボットクリエイターの高橋氏が設計・監修したロボットを作りながら、さまざまな学びや感性を養成している。主に小学生を対象に全国に約５３０教室を展開、約４０００人が学んでいる。
　同社の山本代表取締役は「資源の乏しい日本は、科学的な分野で新しい製品を開発し、科学立国を目指すのがあるべき姿。そういった仕事に就ける子供たちをどんどん育てていかないといけない」と宣言。古田所長も「この講座が技術者不足の解消と理系離れを食い止め、日本産業の底上げのひとつの起爆剤となればいい。講座を受けた子供たちが、必ず２０年後に日本を背負うような製品を作ってくれる」と力強く語った。
　9月から出発しているはずですが、どれくらいの子供たちが英才教育を受けるようになったのか知りたいですね。技術立国「日本」の支えるようなロボット博士が誕生していって欲しいですね。
