九州工業大（北九州市）と鹿児島大が共同開発する超小型の人工衛星が来年、宇宙に飛び立つかもしれない。宇宙航空研究開発機構（ＪＡＸＡ）が、小惑星探査機「はやぶさ２」を載せて来年１２月打ち上げ予定のＨ２Ａロケットに「相乗り」させる衛星を公募して、その候補に選ばれた。来年３月ごろ、ＪＡＸＡが搭載の可否を決める。
　両大学が２０日発表した。衛星は「しんえん２」。多面体で５０センチほどの大きさ。強化プラスチックを使った軽さと丈夫さが売りで、重さは１５キロと、前作の「しんえん」に比べ約１０キロ減量。製作費は約５００万円を見込む。宇宙との遠距離通信の実験などをする予定だ。
　ＪＡＸＡによると、「しんえん２」は東京大などが提案した２機の人工衛星に次いで「相乗り」候補に選ばれた。ＪＡＸＡは今後、ロケットの打ち上げや搭載能力などを精査して、実際にロケットに載せる人工衛星を決めるという。搭載されるといいですね。
