米ＣＮＮテレビは１２日、北朝鮮が地球周回軌道に投入したと主張する「人工衛星」について、「北朝鮮は完全には制御できていないようだ」とする米政府高官の見方を伝えた。管制室から、必要な信号が衛星に発信された形跡がないという。
　この高官によると、投入されたのは通信衛星とみられ、地球を南北に周回しているが、安定した軌道に乗ったかどうか確認できていない。通常であれば、衛星が軌道に乗り次第、管制室から太陽光発電パネルを広げるよう指示する信号が発信されるが、今のところ確認されていないという。
　パネッタ米国防長官は１２日の同テレビのインタビューで、「（何らかの物体が）宇宙に到達しただけなのかどうかを判断するには、（ミサイル）各段、特に最終段（３段目）の航跡を分析する必要がある」と述べ、発射が成功したかどうかの判断を保留した。今後明確になっていくであろう航跡の分析や信号の有無についての結果などから「人工衛星」の正体が明らかになっていくでしょうね。「人工衛星」の発射となると意味合いも違ってくるのかも知れませんね。
