熊本県警の嘱託警察犬にミニチュアダックスフントのベッキー（メス３歳）が合格した。県警によると、この犬種の警察犬は全国でも初めてという。
　３度目の挑戦となった先月の試験。広い場所での捜索が苦手だったが懸命に鼻をクンクンさせ、草むらの中から匂いを頼りに２人の行方不明者を見事捜し出した。
　ベッキーの独特のスタイルは、災害時にがれきの隙間（すきま）を捜索するなど大型犬では難しい現場に向いているという。体は小さいが、その活躍への期待は大きい。適材適所で、大活躍することを期待したいですね。
