　テキサス州のベクサー郡が今年後半に開館予定の図書館は「ビブリオテック」と呼ばれ、学習室や子供用スペースも用意。読書室に備え付けられたパソコンやタブレット端末に電子書籍をダウンロードして読む仕組みだ。端末を借りて自宅で読むこともできる。利用者登録さえ済ませれば、自分の端末へのダウンロードも可能で、貸し出しや返却のために図書館に足を運ぶ必要もなくなる。
　当初は１万冊程度を扱う。電子書籍の調達費を含む事業費は１５０万ドル（約１億４千万円）。ベクサー郡は今回の計画が成功すれば、増設も検討するとしており、端末だけの図書館なら「（敷地面積が小さい）ショッピングセンターにも開館できる」と意気込む。近い将来には、こんな図書館もありでしょうね。日本にも、こんな図書館が出きることを期待したいですね。
