　借金通帳は、松代藩から「金千両」借用の約束を取り付け、1849（嘉永２）年から翌年までの間に17回に分け計451両を借りたことを記録した冊子。辞書の版木の一部分が作られていたことも記されている。
　松田京都外大教授（洋学史）は「海の防衛のため、科学技術導入に必要なオランダ語普及を訴えた象山の開明性と熱情が感じられる」と話している。
