素人でも訓練すれば、プロ棋士と同じような「直観」的な思考回路が持てるという研究結果を理化学研究所（埼玉県和光市）の脳科学総合研究センターが確認し、米科学誌「ジャーナル・オブ・ニューロサイエンス」に発表した。
　プロ棋士は、将棋の盤面を見た途端に直観が働き、「次の一手」が浮かぶとされる。医師が診断画像を見てどこに異常があるかを見つけたり、システムエンジニアが膨大なデータの中から、故障の原因を探すのも同じ能力だとされている。
　同センターでは、プロ棋士の直観が働いている時に、脳のどこが活発に働くかを調べ、習慣行動の形成に関連があるといわれている「尾状核(びじょうかく)」と呼ばれる部分が働くことを突き止めて２０１１年に発表した。
　今回は電気通信大の協力で将棋をやったことがない２０～２２歳の男子学生２０人に毎日約１時間、４か月にわたってコンピューターで詰め将棋に挑戦してもらい、訓練直後と４か月後で脳の活動にどんな変化があるかを調べた。
　その結果、訓練直後には見られなかった、尾状核が活発に働いている様子が４か月後に確認できたという。盤面を見た後に頭に浮かんだ複数の「次の一手」から尾状核が働くことでふさわしい手を選んでいるとみられる。最初はほとんど解けなかった学生も訓練をするうちに正答率が上がったという。
　答えを選択する時間が短いほど正答率が高かったが、これまでの研究でプロ棋士は時間に関係なく、尾状核が活動していることが分かっている。尾状核が活発に活動するには長年の訓練が関連しているとみられる。
研究に携わった同センターの田中副センター長は「尾状核の訓練方法が確立すれば、医療やコンピューターエンジニアなど、（直観が働く）熟達者の効果的な育成方法が提案できる」と話している。
　短期間で「尾状核」が活発に動くようになる有効で簡単なトレーニング方法を確立して欲しいですね。
