信州大は、繊維、化学メーカーと共同で極細の炭素繊維カーボンナノチューブ（ＣＮＴ）を使って効率的に水を浄化する新たな水処理膜（ナノカーボン膜）の開発に乗り出す。政府の本年度補正予算から数十億円補助を受け、来年度末までに工学部に研究拠点を整備。新技術を基に水の循環システムの構築を目指す。県を交え、事業化による海外展開も視野に入れている。
　現在、急速に工業化が進む中国などでは工場排水による河川や海の汚染が深刻化。今後、世界的に水需要が高まると予想されており、水の浄化技術に注目が集まっている。信大などの技術開発と事業化が実現すれば、信州発の世界貢献にもなりそうだ。
　ＣＮＴは、遠藤・信大特別特任教授が同大工学部教授時代に開発。新しい膜の開発には、信大のほかに、膜による水処理技術を持つ繊維メーカーの東レ、ＣＮＴを大量生産できる化学メーカーの昭和電工が関わる。
　水の浄化技術は、今後の世界に取って必要な技術でしょうから信州発の世界貢献が実現するといいですね。同時に、周辺産業や企業の技術や生産が活性化することも期待したいですね。
