近畿大学発のベンチャー企業「アーマリン近大」（和歌山県白浜町）は今日から同大学水産研究所新宮実験場（同県新宮市）で養殖しているチョウザメから採取した「近大キャビア」を発売する。
　同大学は１９９５年から新魚種の養殖開発を目指してチョウザメの飼育に取り組み、０８年から毎年１００個の瓶詰めキャビアの販売を実施。成長促進のための薬品使用を一切行わないなど、安全性も消費者に好評という。
　２０１１年秋の紀伊水害では、同実験場のいけすに土砂が流れ込むなどして、約２３０匹いたチョウザメは約１６０匹までに減ったが、職員による懸命 の努力で復旧。昨年は残ったチョウザメから採ったキャビアの瓶を７５個販売したが、今年はさらに５５個多い１３０個に増やした。
