　午後には卑弥呼の後継者・台与(とよ)の墓との説がある同県天理市の西殿塚(にしとのづか)古墳でも立ち入り調査を実施。ともに陵墓（天皇、皇族の墓）として宮内庁が管理し、非公開としてきたが、邪馬台国の所在地や古墳成立過程の解明の鍵を握る古墳だけに学会側が要望し、初の調査が実現した。
