　病原菌やウイルスなどが体内に侵入すると、免疫細胞が活性化されてウイルスなどを排除する。樹状細胞は、外敵が侵入した情報を免疫細胞に伝達したり、自ら迎撃したりして、免疫で中心的な役割を果たす。
　中でも特定のタイプの樹状細胞は感染初期に、ウイルスを撃退するインターフェロンを爆発的に生み出し、他の免疫細胞を活性化させる重要な働きがある。しかし、このタイプの樹状細胞を優先的に生み出す細胞は見つかっていなかった。更なる研究を進めて治療薬の開発につながっていくことを期待したいですね。
