８０歳で３度目の世界最高峰・エベレスト（標高８８４８メートル）登頂を目指していたプロスキーヤーの三浦雄一郎さんは２３日、登頂に成功した。８０歳７カ月での最高齢登頂記録となった。
　登頂したのは三浦さんをはじめ、次男の豪太さん、登攀（とうはん）隊長の倉岡さん、撮影担当の平出さん（３３）の日本人隊員４人と、登山をサポートした６人のシェルパたち。
　三浦さんらは２３日午前２時１５分（日本時間同５時半）ごろ、最終キャンプ（８５００メートル）を出発。無風快晴の天候の中、午前６時４０分には８７００メートルの南峰まで到達。最後の難所の岩壁「ヒラリーステップ」を越え、“地球の頂点”にたどり着いた。
　三浦さんは２００３年に７０歳で、０８年に７５歳でエベレストに登頂。その後、スキー事故による骨盤骨折や持病の不整脈を乗り越え、今年３月２９日に日本を発ち、エベレスト街道でトレッキングを開始。４月１６日にベースキャンプに到着、５月１６日から頂上アタックを始めた。その後、６カ所のキャンプを経由して頂上を目指していた。登頂おめでとうございます。多くの人々に感動とやる気を与える快挙だと思います。頑張らないといけませんね。
