文部科学省は２１日、新型の固体燃料ロケット「イプシロン」１号機の打ち上げを、８月２２日に決定したと発表した。宇宙航空研究開発機構（ＪＡＸＡ）が鹿児島県肝付町の内之浦宇宙空間観測所から打ち上げる。
　イプシロンは、２００６年に引退したＭ５ロケットの後継機。１号機には、地球を周回しながら金星や火星を観測する衛星を搭載する。
　下村文科相は閣議後の記者会見で「作業が円滑に進み、打ち上げが成功するよう文科省としても全力を尽くしたい」と述べた。
　また文科省は、８月４日には無人補給機「こうのとり」４号機を搭載するＨ２Ｂロケット４号機を種子島宇宙センター（鹿児島県）から打ち上げることも発表した。
　小型で高性能・低コストのロケットが頻繁に打ち上げられる時代がやってくる。その未来を拓く新型の固体燃料ロケット「イプシロン」１号機の打ち上げが成功することを期待したいですね。
