　名利の欲とは別のなにかがその人をかりたてていると考へざるをえない。つまり他の政治家がどうであるにせよ、安倍氏が「滅私の精神」の政治家の一人であることは、いわば論理的に確かなのだということになる。
しかし、それにしても、さらに一層の屈辱を覚悟のうえで、敢へてもう一度、いばらの道への再挑戦を安倍元首相に決意させたのは、いったい何だったのだろうか？
　それを教へてくれるのが、小川榮太郎氏の近著『約束の日－－安倍晋三試論』である。これは一口に言えば、安倍晋三という人間にとことん惚れ込んだ著者が、そのことを自覚のうえで徹底して客観的に安倍政権の１年間を検証しようとした《検証本》である。
　その検証からうかび上ってくるのは、当時、安倍政権のかかげた「戦後レジームからの脱却」というスローガンが、実はいかに壮大な日本再生の大事業だつたのか、ということである。それは、単なる公務員制度改革、教育改革といつた個別の改革ではなく、それらすべてを通じて、敗戦後の日本の心身をしばりつけてきた束縛を断ち切らう、それによつて誇りある自立国家としての日本を取り戻そう、ということだったのである。
ただし、６年前に安倍政権がこの大目標をかかげ示したときは、そのことの必要性はまだ国民の間で切実に感じられてはいなかった。安倍政権の挫折は、この検証本が語るとおり、メディア・テロによつてもたらされたと言うべきものであるが、別の一面では、当時の安倍首相は早く来すぎた首相だったのだとも言える。
いまでは、日本の直面するさまざまの危機を克服するのに、単なる対症療法では解決にならないこと、敗戦後の日本をしばりつづけてきた枠組みを根本から見直し、つくりかえることなしには日本の再生はありえないこと－－こうしたことが誰の目にも明らかになつてきている。世の中がようやく安倍氏に追いついたのである。
　今回の自民党総裁選の間、党本部には大きな字で「日本を、取り戻す。」と記したポスターがかかげられていた。安倍陣営のポスターではない。党全体のポスターである。このポスターのもとでの選挙戦で、まさにこのことのために自らの生命をも危くした先駆者である安倍候補が当選したのは「不思議」どころか当然のことであろう。
