　匿名の所有者が同文献をキング教授に持ち込み、解読を依頼した。エジプトもしくはシリアで発見されたも のと考えられている。キング教授は同文献について、キリストが結婚していたことの証明にはならないとした上で、「初期の信者の一部が、キリストに妻がいた と信じていたことを示す初の証拠」と指摘した。
　キリストに妻がいたかどうかをめぐる論争は以前から度々起きているが、２００３年に発表された小説「ダ・ヴィンチ・コード」は、イエスが売春婦とされるマグダラのマリアとの間に子どもがいたとするストーリーを展開し、多くのキリスト教信者の怒りを買った。
　イエスが結婚していたら十字架の道を行く必要はなかったでしょうね。ましてや子どもが誕生し血統が具体的に残ったら世界はこんなにはなっていなかった気がしますね。
