　飛鳥大仏は高さ２．７５メートル。日本初の仏教寺院・飛鳥寺の本尊として６０９年に完成したとされる。鎌倉時代の１１９６年に飛鳥寺は全焼し、約４０年 後にまとめられた書物には大仏は頭と手しか残らなかったと記されていた。明治以降の研究では、その記録が前提となり、大部分は後の時代の補修で造り直されたと考えられてきた。そのため国宝ではなく、重要文化財にとどまっている。今回の結果を受けて国宝に指定される可能性が出てきましたね。
