西アフリカで流行するエボラ出血熱の感染の有無を１５分で検査するキットを、北海道大の高田教授（ウイルス学）のグループと、医療品メーカーのデンカ生研（東京都中央区）が開発した。
　これまでの検査機器では、感染の有無がわかるまでに数時間かかった。高田教授は「すぐに判明するので、感染拡大の防止につながる」と話している。
　検査キットは縦約３センチ、横約８・５センチのプラスチック製。感染が疑われる血液から分離した血清をキットに垂らすと、マウスで作られたエボラウイルスの抗体が反応し、約１５分で結果が分かる。エボラウイルスに感染したサルの血清で検査し、感染を確認したという。
　従来の検査機器はウイルス量が少なくても感染の有無を判断できたが、感度が良すぎて誤検知もあった。電源も必要なため、西アフリカなどでは今回のキットの方が使いやすいという。キットはまだ試作段階で、実用化に向けて開発を進めている。高田教授は「簡単に誰でも使えるのが特徴。現地で役に立つはず」と話している。感染拡大阻止のためにも現地で実用的に使えるキットを即急につくってほしいですね。
