2015年4月16日の午前、JR東海は山梨リニア実験線で高速域走行試験を実施。590km/hで有人走行したと発表。
　これまで超電導リニアの速度記録は、2003年に山梨リニア実験線で「MLX01」が達成した581km/hで、それが有人走行で世界の鉄道史上最速の記録。
　今回、山梨リニア実験線で超電導リニア「L0系」がそれを更新、590km/hを達成したということは、超電導リニアで史上最速であるのはもちろん、有人走行で世界の鉄道史上最速の記録を更新したことを意味する。
　JR東海によるとこの高速域走行試験は550km/hを超える速度域のデータを取得し、リニア営業線設備の最適設計に役立てることを目的に実施。
　この山梨リニア実験線を営業線に転用して開業するリニア中央新幹線は、最高速度505km/h。まず品川～名古屋間で2027年の開業を目指し、建設が始められています。
　飛行機の離陸速度が200～300km／hです。590km/hを秒速になおすと160m／sです。1秒間に160m進みます。まさに飛び勢いで走り抜ける感じですね。それが12年ほどで開業するんですから凄いですね。世界中にリニア線ができれば飛行機もいらなくなるかもしれませんね。
