群馬県内初の株式会社立小学校「フェリーチェ玉村国際小学校」の開校記念式典が４日、同県玉村町の町文化センターで行われた。
　同町で私塾を運営してきた株式会社「群馬フェリーチェ学園」が開校し、全校児童は５８人。１日の学校生活の半分を英語で学習し、在学中に英検２級の合格を目指す。
　式典には、玉村町の貫井町長ら３００人が出席。同社の社長も務める田村校長が、「この学校の英語教育は、日本の英語教育を大きく前進させると確信している。卒業生たちは英語力を生かし、世界で活躍する人材となる」と意気込みを語った。児童を代表してあいさつした６年生男児は、「一番学校で楽しいことは外国人の先生と英語を話すこと。語学を生かして人の役に立つ人間になりたい」と、日本語と英語の２言語で決意を述べた。
　学校は本来、国や自治体、学校法人しか設置できないが、同町が昨年６月、構造改革特区法に基づく教育特区として政府から認定され、同社立の小学校の開校が実現した。
　同校は１クラス２０人以下の少人数学級で、米国出身の外国人などが講師となって英語中心の教育を行う。英語で何を話すかが重要でしょうから英語を話せても薄っぺらな日本人になりかねませんね。日本人のアイデンティティをしっかり教育することも忘れない欲しい気がしますね。
