The development of new Ebola virus vaccine.

新しいエボラウイルスのワクチンを開発し、サルで有効性を証明したと、東京大の河岡教授（ウイルス学）らの研究チームが米科学誌サイエンス電子版に２７日、発表する。毒性をなくした不活化ワクチンのため安全性も高く、他のワクチン候補より高い効果が期待できるという。
　研究チームは、エボラウイルスの増殖に不可欠な遺伝子を欠損させた変異ウイルスを作製し、さらに過酸化水素水で無毒化してワクチンを作った。２頭のサルの筋肉にワクチンを接種し、４週間後にもう一度接種した。さらに４週間後、致死量の本物のエボラウイルスを感染させたところ、エボラ出血熱の症状は出なかった。
　現在、臨床試験中のエボラワクチンは３種類あるが、効果や安全性に問題があるとの指摘も出ている。河岡教授は「早期実用化を目指して、安全基準を満たすワクチンの製造や臨床試験を進めていきたい」と話す。医学（科学）の進歩は急速に早まっている感じがしますね。ぜひ、効果と安全性の高いワクチンが開発されることを期待します。
