京都大ｉＰＳ細胞研究所（ＣｉＲＡ）の山中所長は１１日、京都市で開催された日本医学会総会の開会式で講演し、「ｉＰＳ細胞の医療応用の使命に向かって、力を合わせてがんばっていきたい」と述べ、今後１５年の目標などを説明した。
　ＣｉＲＡは２０１０年４月に設立。２０年までの目標として、治療に使うｉＰＳ細胞を備蓄する「ストック計画」の構築やｉＰＳ細胞を使った臨床研究の開始などの四つを掲げてきた。山中さんは講演で進み具合を紹介。「みんなのがんばりで順調に進み、達成できることはほぼ間違いない」と話し、これらを発展させた３０年までの長期的な目標を明らかにした。
　新たな目標は、ｉＰＳ細胞ストックを柱とした再生医療の普及▽ｉＰＳ細胞による個別化医薬の実現と難病の創薬▽ｉＰＳ細胞を利用した新たな生命科学と医療の開拓▽日本最高レベルの研究支援体制と研究環境の整備の四つ。
　この総会は４年に１度開かれ、「医療」や「医学」をめぐる課題を話し合う学術講演とセッションがあり、１１日午前の開会式には皇太子さまも出席した。様々な難病などの治療方法が確立されていきそうですね。病気が近い将来なくなっていくのかもしれませんね。
