　再生医療では主に細胞を培養後に移植し、失われた組織や臓器の機能を回復させる。他人の細胞を使って製品化すれば、すぐに治療を開始でき、１人の細胞から多人数用の製品ができるのでコストが安くなる。
　国内でも他人の細胞を使った臨床研究は行われているが、製品化については、「人体の商品化と社会に受け止められるのではないか」との懸念から事業が進みにくかった。
