"Needleless syringe"

針を使わずに気泡の圧力で試薬や遺伝子を体内に届けられる「針なし注射器」の開発に、芝浦工業大学機械工学科の山西准教授が成功した。直接皮膚に押し当てるだけで、痛みを伴わずに試薬や遺伝子を目的の場所へ高精度に輸送できるという。
 既存の針なし注射器は、バネの力で液体を高圧で発射し、皮膚を貫いて筋肉に薬剤を投与するものなどがあるが、神経を傷つける恐れや、多少の痛みを感じるなどの問題があった。
 新開発の針なし注射器は、高速で発射した気泡がはじける力で皮膚に微細な穴を空け、その穴から、試薬をまとった微細な気泡を注入する。気泡のガスは収縮し、試薬だけが患部に届く。穴の直径は4μメートルほどで、細胞へのダメージも少なくて済む。
 2012年に開発した「マイクロバブルインジェクションメス」を改良して開発した。マイクロバブルインジェクションメスは、液中で微細な気泡を連続して打ち出し、マイクロレベルの微細な穴を空けると同時に、試薬をまとった気泡を輸送できるメス。メスを覆うガラス製のシェルの位置を前方に突き出すことで細胞と気泡導入部との密着性を向上させ、空気中で使用できるようにした。
 薬剤を皮下注射する際に利用できるほか、植物細胞を含むあらゆる固さの細胞への遺伝子導入・治療など、幅広い用途に使用できるという。今後はデバイス構造の最適化、試薬の導入量、痛み、穿孔深度の評価を行い、企業と連携するなどして実用化を目指す。痛みのない注射良いですね。ぜひ、実用化して欲しいですね。
